Campervan or motorhome: finding your fit
“Campervan” and “motorhome” cover a wonderfully varied range of vehicles. The right choice has more to do with your holiday habits than the badge or the label.
How do you like to spend the day?
If you like moving between places, a more compact camper might suit your rhythm. If you prefer to settle into one campsite and spend more time inside, extra living space may matter more. Either way, check the actual length, width and height before planning routes or parking.
Think about a rainy evening
It’s easy to imagine every meal outside. Think about what happens when the weather turns: where does everyone sit, where do wet coats go, and how do you make the beds? A layout that works for two people might feel very different for a family of four.
Ask to see the beds made up. Check their actual sizes, the number of approved travelling seats and how the sleeping and seating arrangements fit your group. Don’t infer any of these from a van’s model name.
Which facilities matter to you?
Toilets, showers, cooking arrangements, storage and power provision depend on the conversion. A larger van doesn’t automatically have every facility, and a compact camper may make very clever use of its space.
Match the van to the campsites you intend to use. A site with facilities can change what you need on board. Ask how the water, waste and electrics work, and what happens when you’re away from an electric hook-up.
A practical comparison

What we’re planning
At Ankers Campers, the plan is a VW T6.1 and a larger VW Crafter. They haven’t been bought yet, so the illustrations show our direction rather than bookable vehicles. We’ll share photographs, layouts and full details when the real vans are ready.
Valerie, our own VW T6, inspired the business but won’t be part of the hire fleet.
